Playing the Mom Card

My mom is a Anglophile which means she has a huge fascination with all things British. High tea, Benedict Cumberbatch, Dr. Who, you name it. She's also never been. Not once. The closest she's been to England is a pot of PG Tips and a box of Walkers Shortbread. I think it started with the accents (everything sounds better coming from a Brit) and culminated into a small obsession.
I love my mom. Remember followers - she's my 4th favorite subject to talk about after babies, puppies and baking.
So when Ellen announced an essay contest with a grand prize trip to Great Britain, I was in.

Here were the steps:
- Found out about the contest on my favorite contest search page, The Balance.
- Read over the details - this contest is celebrating the release of the new film "King Arthur: Legend of the Sword". Check out this lengthy prize description!
- Submitted on the site a 500 word essay on why I deserved to go on this trip.

- And, without any humility or qualms, totally pulled the Mom Card. A 500 word essay dedicated to her and that I'd take her on the trip.
Summary: I don't watch Ellen. I probably won't see the movie. But the prize and ease to enter was enticing enough. It was nice that I could directly enter straight through the web platform. It was also nice that I didn't have to share or sign up for anything in return. I find essay writing very exciting but some might find it challenging and old fashioned so my scores reflect a middle-road.
