Purse for the People: Design By You Handbag Giveaway

We here at Participation Trophy love the rain forest. So when we came across Purse for the People’s Design By You contest, we summoned the eco-friendly designer within and test drove the brand’s new software in the hopes of creating a winning sustainable handbag. The hard part: designing a woven natural-fiber satchel that says “Native New Yorker—I Only Wear Black.”

Let’s walk you through the steps:

Step 1. Click the link in bio on the Purse for the People Instagram page. You are redirected to the Design By You Software page where you can choose from a preset selection of handbag styles with airy names like “Juniper” and “Palm.” I decide to customize “Laurel,” my roommate's name. 

Step 2.  Hmm. There’s a problem loading the software page. I’m encouraged to pick a new style.

Step 3. I abandon “Laurel,” and move on to “Pine.” The page loads fine, and I am given choices from a drop down menu where I can customize closure, handle, hardware, and leather.

Step 4. I plug in my options, and behold. I am presented with my very own custom designed handbag.

Who Is She?

Step 5. I post my design to Instagram, tag a friend, and cross my fingers.    

Summary: Easy, quick, and fun. Forgivable software glitch.
